Review: ‘The Trial of Loki: A Study in Heathen Morality’ by Alan James

‘The Trial of Loki’ was originally published in the Australian Odinist journal ‘Renewal’ in serial form, and it tells. Although it has been revised and expanded it is still, essentially, an essay rather than a book. It looks purely at the format of Lokasenna, the author’s focus solely on this one ‘chapter’ of the Eddas, and his theory is that Lokasenna is in fact a trial.

Good Swan, Bad Swan

Good Swan, Bad Swan: Dancing Swan Lake: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01s4wy9 via @bbciplayer

I’ve loved ballet since I was very young, and Swan Lake always captivated me. This documentary explores the mythology of the Swan Maiden, and the psychology behind the characters of Odette and Odile.
We are reminded of duality through this double role. Odette, the White Swan, is the unobtainable ideal of the Prince, innocence and light. Odile, the Black Swan, is desire, sensuality, manipulation and the dark.

Valentine’s Day Food For Norse Deities

In my previous post I listed a few ideas of how to connect with the Deities on Valentine’s Day. One of these was through the medium of food, so here are a few suggestions of my own. Some may seem fairly obvious, but others are a play on attributes, words, or just a bit of tongue-in-cheek fun. I wanted them to be items you could just quickly nip to the shops and find, although obviously this depends on your location, your local shops and country.
Don’t take them too seriously, and I apologise especially to Tyr, and any of his followers for the crisps recommendation – I just couldn’t resist. Hopefully He and you will forgive me!

Friday Finds

Time for a new feature. Every first Friday of the month I will share links to some wonderful Pagan/ Spiritual items.

First up is DeBaun Fine Ceramics – I have bought a scarab bowl off this lady and my mum has a beautiful Mother Mary shrine from her. She’s in the USA so we have to buy from her before my brother’s yearly visit home to the UK; my purchases this year are the gorgeous Shiva sculpture and a custom Hathor shrine. I just have to hope my brother can fit them in his case or I may have to pay for him to have an extra bag… the things we do for the Gods and Goddesses we adore!

Here are just a few of the many items she makes:
